A small device behind the TV shows each day's Hukamnama in Gurmukhi with its English translation, readable from across the hall. Every day at our Gurdwara, I watched the Granthi Singh check the day's Hukamnama on his phone, then search a USB drive full of saved screenshots for the matching one and open it on the TV. A small job, but one that had to be done every single day, by someone who already does so much seva.ਹਰ ਰੋਜ਼ ਆਪਣੇ ਗੁਰਦੁਆਰਾ ਸਾਹਿਬ ਵਿੱਚ ਮੈਂ ਦੇਖਦਾ ਸੀ ਕਿ ਗ੍ਰੰਥੀ ਸਿੰਘ ਜੀ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਫ਼ੋਨ ਉੱਤੇ ਅੱਜ ਦਾ ਹੁਕਮਨਾਮਾ ਦੇਖਦੇ, ਫਿਰ ਸਾਂਭੇ ਹੋਏ ਸਕਰੀਨਸ਼ਾਟਾਂ ਨਾਲ ਭਰੀ USB ਡਰਾਈਵ ਵਿੱਚੋਂ ਉਹੀ ਲੱਭ ਕੇ ਟੀਵੀ ਉੱਤੇ ਖੋਲ੍ਹਦੇ। ਕੰਮ ਛੋਟਾ ਸੀ, ਪਰ ਹਰ ਰੋਜ਼ ਕਰਨਾ ਪੈਂਦਾ ਸੀ, ਅਤੇ ਉਹ ਵੀ ਉਹਨਾਂ ਨੂੰ ਜੋ ਪਹਿਲਾਂ ਹੀ ਬਹੁਤ ਸੇਵਾ ਕਰਦੇ ਹਨ।

Now the Hukamnama arrives on our TV each morning, exactly as issued from Sri Harmandir Sahib, and the sangat can read it from across the hall. The Hukamnama is the first thing many of the sangat look for when they arrive. The device is connected to my server. The screen picks up the day's Hukamnama from there; if my server hasn't got the day's yet, the screen asks the public Gurbani services directly. The Hukamnama is taken at Amrit Vela at Sri Harmandir Sahib, Amritsar. I help remotely, usually within a few days; most problems can be fixed from my end. Software updates are sent to the device automatically from my server. You can, but someone has to open it every morning, apps and websites are made for phones and computers rather than a TV across the hall, and many stop at an error page when the internet drops. This screen is built only for the Hukamnama on a Gurdwara TV: nobody has to open anything, the Gurmukhi and translation are fitted to your TV at the largest size that fits, the last Hukamnama stays on screen during outages, and your Gurdwara's announcements and display hours are managed online.
